Maria Daines

I'm a singer songwriter from UK and I live for music, writing and animal rescue. I get ideas for songs while walking our dogs in the countryside. Often I have to run home and scrawl down a lyric or poem before I forget it.

My thanks to Bard of Ely for helping to get me started on hubpages and you can see what the amazing Bard had to say about my work by clicking this link:

Maria Daines sings and writes for animal rights

Maria Daines is a multi-award winning International vocalist and songwriter whose band opened for US artist Pink at Cardiff International Arena for the Party for Animals Worldwide concert in August 2007, the last date of Pink's 'I'm Not Dead' tour in Europe. The concert raised over £90,000 for six animal welfare charities. Based in the UK, Maria is an advocate for animal rights and welfare campaigning against breed specific legislation and issues of animal cruelty.

Maria is Patron of Doris Banham Sanctuary, Wales Ape and Monkey Sanctuary, The Staffy Campaign, Cornwall's Voice For Animals, The Racing Dog Protection Act, Honorary Board Member of Saving America's Horses, Honorary Member of Skiathos Cat Society, Ambassador for World Animal Day, a volunteer for DDAWatch and recently appointed patron of K.A.A.L.E. (Kent Action Against Live Export) and SPEC - Stop Puppy Farming, End the Cruelty.

Maria and her husband, guitarist/producer Paul Killington, write original music emcompassing styles from rock, country, folk and blues, but always with a strong sense of 'setting things straight' by tackling subjects of injustice and acknowledging the hard knocks of life, especially those dealt to animals. Their albums, Shelter Me, Faith Hope & Sanctuary and Music United For Animals are released specifically to raise awareness and funds for animals in need and copies are donated free of charge to no-kill rescue organisations world wide. Treebone and Wisdom's Tooth are eclectic collections with a strong blues/rock flavour. Their four piece band is currently off road while they record material for a new album to be released in 2012 entitled 'Wayward Songs'.

Since they met in 1996 when Maria hastily put together a bar band for a biker party, Maria and Paul have played over a thousand gigs and made several TV appearances, their music has gained fans in over 20 countries with a loyal fanbase in Texas. Their songs regularly air on BBC radio, FM and internet stations and recently tracks have appeared in films highlighting animal cruelty, including A Minority Pastime, an independent production featuring 17 Daines/Killington songs and a specially commissioned title track that brought the audience to tears when the film premiered in Soho, London in 2010. Later this year their music will feature in a documentary, Saving America's Horses A Nation Betrayed, which presents a hard hitting exposé and focused look into the unseen world of both wild and domestic equines and the need to protect and preserve them. The extensive Daines/Killington catalogue is published by NorthStar Music UK

Maria and Paul also write and record commissioned music, tribute songs for special occasions,  remembrance and pet bereavement. Songs written as part of the My Song in a Million project financially supports their continuing efforts to donate CD's to animal shelters so funds can be raised for abandoned pets in need.
